SNOW-PACK
As part of STU1122: Core Planning Studio 2, my team of three peers and I were tasked with communicating the City of Lynn’s climate resiliency strategy while gathering community input. Together, we developed the SNOW-PACK: a resource pack providing citizens of Lynn with actionable information about disaster resilience. Winter weather emergencies were chosen as the focus because many of Lynn’s residents are immigrants from equatorial regions who have little to no experience with harsh winter conditions.

The SNOW-PACK includes practical information about the health risks associated with extreme cold and snow, along with strategies for mitigating these risks. We also devised a simple game for high school-aged Lynners, presenting them with scenarios like “Sub-zero temperatures” or “Blizzard watch” and prompting them to choose the most appropriate resources for each event. Additionally, we created “Desire Cards” to collect input on real weather challenges Lynners had faced and the resources they wished to see in the city.

Work presented to “Preparedness for Newcomer Populations” on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 11:00am to 12:00pm ET to  Administration for Children & Families and FEMA employees of New England (Region 1)
