During STU1121: Core Planning Studio 1, we focused on urban planning analysis and proposals in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood, a vibrant, multicultural area with significant cultural and culinary
importance.
For a ‘Health’ assignment, I worked on a project designed to empower residents to make informed decisions about their food choices. I created a map of food access within the neighborhood, emphasizing the quantity of options rather than specific details. This approach reflects my belief that a planner’s role is to facilitate healthy decision-making rather than prescribe specific choices, particularly in a culturally diverse area where ‘health’ may have varied meanings.
The project utilized data from the City of Boston open data portal. All
computations and visualizations were created in R and refined using Adobe
Suite.
